Ranking of Pharmaceutical Companies by the Performance of Medical Representatives (Japan)

Nikkei Research conducted a survey in Japan to discover which pharmaceutical companies have great MRs (medical representatives) who are providing useful information to physicians.

Overview

At a glance, the total number of MRs providing information per physician was 7.6 MRs.
Within that MRs, 4.9 provide useful information, while 2.7 do not.

Ranking of Pharmaceutical Companies by departments

It was revealed that the usefulness of MRs differ by pharmaceutical companies and also by each of the medical categories. Companies that are strong in certain medicine lead the list. For internal medicine, companies that are good at lifestyle diseases top the list. Similarly, companies that are strong in insulin for endocrinology/diabetics, hyperlipidemia for cardiology, COPD for respiratory, and so on. Maruho, a specialized pharmaceutical company, ranks No.1 in dermatology.

Breaking down by the physicians’ segment, General Practitioners (GPs; 19 beds and under) and Hospitals (HPs; 20 beds and over), the ranking changes. For example, Tsumura, which ranked 2nd in internal medicine, received the most support from General Practitioners (GP).

By conducting surveys targeting specifically to dedicated departments or facilities of each pharmaceutical company, we can collect more accurate results on the level of evaluation and satisfaction towards the current engagement.
Furthermore, surveys can provide useful data for understanding the current status and for forecasting, help plan next actions.
