Annual Business Survey and Basic Survey of Japanese Business Structure and Activities

Nikkei Research Inc. has been assigned by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan to conduct the 2023 Annual Business Survey and the 2023 Basic Survey of Japanese Business Structure and Activities.

The Annual Business Survey is held each year to investigate the structure of business establishment and added-values or such of every industry in Japan and helps the understanding of the economy's status in the middle year of the Economic Census for Business Activity, which is conducted every 5 years. The survey identifies the actual sales status and cost breakdown of each industry, which is used to improve the accuracy of national accounts (annual estimates) and for effective government measures as well as for corporate management decisions.

METI's Basic Survey of Japanese Business Structure and Activities is conducted annually as a fundamental statistical survey under the Statistics Law (Article 53 of 2007) to acquire basic data on corporations' policies and activities such as diversification, internationalization, R&D, and reorganization.
