Department Store Survey -- news published on Nikkei, August 25

Nationwide department store sales in FY2020 were down 27.2% from FY2019, within the comparable 172 stores -- the largest drop ever. Total sales in FY2020 (181 stores) were 4,222.8 billion yen. 1,565.9 billion yen from FY19 has vanished. The share of companies whose online sales were "less than 1%" to their total sales was 41.9%, the highest among others. The slow progress of digitalization in department stores was revealed.
