The October survey of the "Nikkei Consumption DI" — a quarterly index of business sentiment among consumption-related companies — showed that the business sentiment index dropped 3 points to minus 30. This is the first time in two quarters that the value of DI (the subtracted share of answers from "good" to "bad" responses) has declined. 6 out of 14 industries, such as "supermarkets" and "department stores," worsened from the previous survey.
