Survey of 10,000 Local Train Users — results published on Nikkei

In an online survey targeting 10,000 users of 95 local railway companies throughout Japan, 85.5% of the respondents answered they "accept it to be unavoidable" for train fares to rise. While 87.7% of the total answered the local lines they use "should maintain" even if the operating company is running in deficit, significantly surpassing the share of "should stop." Over 4 in 10 were "dissatisfied" with the government's support in helping local railways.
