The January survey of the Nikkei Consumer DI, a quarterly summary of business sentiment among consumption-related companies, showed the business sentiment index at minus 17, up 13 points from the previous survey conducted in October 2022. The first improvement seen in two quarters, recovering near to the level of that in October 2019, before the widespread of the novel coronavirus. By industry, 8 industries such as "supermarkets" and "restaurants" improved from the previous survey.
