The domestic total store sales amounted to ¥ 11,795.2 billion, of which ¥ 11,043.3 billion was generated by the three major companies, an increase of 4.2% on the previous year and higher than in FY19 (¥ 10,992 billion) before COVID-19 outbreak. The number of customers increased by 4.8% and the average spend per customer rose by 2.7%, but the number of new openings fell by 21% to 1,040, down approximately 70% from the peak of 3,732 in FY13 and the lowest since FY07, when comparisons were possible.
